MONTICELLO, KY –First Southern National Bank’s Monticello branch recently provided a free Smart Saving class at the Wayne County Library.

The class is part of the bank’s mission to support community members in making wise financial decisions. Community President Tim Hopper led the class by showing participants a step-by-step approach they can take to saving.

The foundation for the plan is to create a budget with line items for income and expenses that are focused on giving, saving, and spending. Hopper provided each participant with a budget template that they can use to get started.

“A visual budget will help you stay focused and keep track of your monthly income and your monthly expenses,” Hopper said. “It will help you make smarter decisions as time passes.”

Hopper said to be patient when executing this plan because it takes some time to see the fruits of your labor.

“It’s a marathon and not a sprint,” he said. “It will take some time to get comfortable with creating a plan.”
